Below the fold: Deep Springs “Boujie” mixtape, 1992.
A few notes: “Boujie” is the Deep Springs dance party, believed derived from the French bouger; I also had the class mix around, but all of the last names are on the label so meh; yes, I was cultivating “interesting” handwriting.

Is that the derivation? I always thought it was a corruption of “boogie.”

The best boujie mix I ever heard was the one the kids made when I was teaching at DS in 1993. And by “made” I mean, they actually composed the music. It was all techno three of them recorded for an independent study in electronic music. I still have the CD, and it kind of kicks ass.

According to this it might be, it might not be.
